Simon Brewer
Simon Brewer, Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Geography at the University of Utah.
Professor Brewer’s research focuses on ecosystem changes across spatial and temporal scales, as well as spatial and spatio-temporal analysis. His work spans diverse collaborations, including projects in health sciences, anthropology, hydrology, atmospheric sciences, and urban planning.
Brewer earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the University of London, followed by a Ph.D. at Université Paul Cézanne in Aix-en-Provence, France, which he completed in 2002. He subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher at various institutions across Europe before joining the University of Wyoming in 2008. He began his faculty appointment at the University of Utah in the Department of Geography shortly thereafter.
In addition to his research, Brewer is dedicated to mentoring students in data science, machine learning, and spatial statistics. Outside of academia, he enjoys cycling and exploring the outdoors.
