John P. A. Ioannidis

John P. A. Ioannidis, M.D., D.Sc., is Professor of Medicine, of Epidemiology and Population Health, and (by courtesy) of Biomedical Data Science at Stanford University. He is also Co-Director of Stanford’s Meta-Research Innovation Center (METRICS), which he co-founded to study and improve the credibility of scientific research.

Widely recognized as a pioneer of meta-research, Professor Ioannidis has published influential work across evidence-based medicine, clinical and molecular epidemiology, research methodology, and genomics. His critical analyses of bias, statistical inference, and scientific practices have had far-reaching impact across biomedical and social sciences.

He has received numerous honors, including honorary doctorates from six universities and election to the U.S. National Academy of Medicine and several international scientific academies. He is among the world’s most cited scientists, with over 620,000 citations and a current rate of more than 6,000 new citations per month.
