For Registrants: Here are materials and information that will help you get ready for the seminar.

mkTime and Place. The first session will begin at 9:00 a.m.on Friday, December 2, in room 9 of the McKimmon Conference and Training Center, North Carolina State University 1101 Gorman Street, Raleigh, North Carolina 27606. There is a reception desk as soon as you walk in to the building and they will be able to direct you to the room. The class will begin promptly, so please arrive about 10 minutes earlier to check in and get organized. Class will end around 5:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

Materials. Download this zip file to your computer: The file contains some datasets that will be used during the course.

Computers. To participate in the hands-on exercises, you are strongly encouraged to bring a laptop computer with the following software installed:  

1. The most recent version of R. R is free and available for Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. Download the version of R compatible with your operating system from here. If you are running Windows or MacOS, you should choose one of the precompiled binary distributions (i.e., ready-to-run applications) linked at the top of the page. 
2. Once R is installed, download and install R Studio. This is a front-end for R that makes it much easier to work with. This software is free and available for Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms.
3. Install the following add-on packages for R. To install the libraries, make sure you have an Internet connection and then launch R Studio. Copy the following line of text and paste them in to R’s command prompt, located in the window named “Console”):

install.packages(c(“tidyverse”, “broom”, “coefplot”, “gapminder”, “ggrepel”, “maps”, “mapproj”, “mapdata”, “quantreg”, “scales”, “MASS”, “devtools”), repos = ““)

You will have access to power outlets and Wifi.

Food. Coffee will be served in the morning and soda will be served in the afternoon. There will also be cookies in the afternoon. There is also a Starbucks Cafe located in the building, but this is only open Friday from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm.

For lunch, there are many restaurants in the immediate area:
